the problem
in the US, more than 500 million plastic straws are used and discarded each day. because straws are extremely lightweight and made of polyprophylene plastic, they cannot be recycled and often end up in the wrong places.
as one of the most common ocean pollution, many of the straws we use end up in our earth's oceans where they do not biodegrade or dissolve, but rather break down into increasingly smaller pieces known as "microplastics". these microplastics end up contaminating our oceans in addtion to harming our marine life.

how you can get involved
the simplest way for you to reduce plastic pollution is to reject the use of single-use plastics, like straws.
the next time you go to a restaurant, make sure to request for your drink without straw.
on the otherhand, if you enjoy using straws, you could invest in resuasable straws.
